BIOTRANSFORM provides European policymakers with an adequate assessment and policy development framework, knowledge base and expert support ecosystem to accelerate the transition from linear fossil-based systems to circular bio-based systems. It is therefore operating at the interface between the circular economy and the bioeconomy transitions. In this way, BIOTRANSFORM equips policymakers with the tools to set informed priorities that serve environmental, economic, and social goals, being actionable, futureproof, and align with supply-and-demand trends in related industries and value chains.

The EU-funded ROBIN project will assist in this difficult task by helping EU countries, regions and cities to set up governance models capable of accelerating their successful transition to a circular bioeconomy. A territorial approach, examining the social, economic, environmental and spatial characteristics of each region, will ensure more tailored and effective outcomes. To implement the approach, the five EU regions of ROBIN (in Ireland, Spain, Greece, Slovakia and Germany) will set up multi-actor regional stakeholder communities that will drive and sustain the transition.

SUSTRACK is a three year project aimed at supporting policymakers in their efforts to develop sustainable pathways to replace fossil and carbon-intensive systems with sustainable circular biobased systems at the EU and regional scale, contributing to achieving the European Green Deal’s objectives.

SUSTRACK will be a multi-disciplinary, collaborative project. Accordingly, it will be based on a participatory approach, involving diverse experts and stakeholders. The overall objective will be to support policy makers in their efforts to develop sustainable pathways to replace fossil-based and carbon-intensive systems with circular, bio-based systems at EU and regional scales.

Against a bleak backdrop of climate change, and energy and food insecurity, as well as the growing waste of bioresources, there is an ambitious push to kickstart the circular bioeconomy. There are plenty of related strategies and action plans already in place or being developed. In this context, the CEE2ACT project will work with countries in central eastern Europe and beyond (Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia). It will help them to develop their own strategies by building on the practice of experienced countries. The project will also create bioeconomy hubs to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and to develop a participatory, non-political, bottom-up approach.

Operating in the field of bioeconomy, these 3 EU-funded Projects focus on the transition towards a sustainable future through a multi-actor approach that was applied among relevant stakeholders, with Transition2BIO focusing specifically on teachers and students. MMLs workshops have also been organised and educational materials, such as the Bioeconomy book for kids “What’s Bioeconomy” will support GenB activities.
